Pepperell repeated the trick of managing five birdies on day three, with one bogey, while he made a bizarre par at the 17th.

He sent his tee shot a long way left and saw the ball find its way under some portable toilets, however got a break as the grandstand meant he could go to the drop zone by the side of the green.

After a poor chip, Pepperell holed from 18 feet and made a three.

He told the DP World Tour website: “I felt sorry for the person in the toilet. I had no idea it was that far left.

“I knew it wasn’t a very good shot but I didn’t expect it to end up where it did. The putter bailed me out there at the end.”

Three birdies and three bogeys during the final round ensured Pepperell ended the tournament 11-under par.

He is back in action at the Andalucia Masters, which gets underway on Thursday.
