ANY football club searching for a new manager must weigh up a huge number of factors.
It’s been five years since Oxford United were involved in this process, such was the longevity of Karl Robinson’s reign as head coach.
The club’s board have had close to a fortnight now after making the decision to part ways with Robinson, following the horror show that was the 3-0 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers.
In that time, it should be expected that solid progress has been made in the hunt to replace Robinson.
There should be at this stage a shortlist of candidates, interviewed a couple of times with different board members.
Ensuring the right decision is made on the next boss will undoubtedly shape United’s fate this season.
Whether the club survives its current freefall or clambers up the table and away from relegation, hinges on who takes the hot seat and whether they make a fast start.
There has been ample time now for a sensible, measured decision to be made.
The club cannot afford to wait much longer though as the new boss will require sufficient time on the training pitch before what is set to be a crunch clash at Morecambe next weekend.
