ARGUABLY the two positions Oxford United might be eyeing a new recruit for in the January window belong to two of their star performers this season.
It has been a frustrating campaign for United so far but Ciaron Brown and Marcus McGuane have been two of the key players in the upturn in form recently.
McGuane has made the holding midfield role his own this season, taking on the extra defensive duties and performing admirably.
Mainly regarded as an offensive player, McGuane has changed his game but shielded the back four superbly.
Whether playing there is getting the best out of him is a separate question though, and with Alex Gorrin set to be on the sidelines for an extended period, looking at a more natural fit in the defensive midfield role might be something the U’s pursue.
“I just want to play the best I can and hopefully that’ll be enough to get into the international squad.”

A similar argument can be made for Brown, probably the club’s player of the season so far.
Centre half is very much his first choice position though.
Elliott Moore and Stuart Findlay appear to be Karl Robinson’s go to pairing at the heart of the defence, while Brown is clear of Steve Seddon at left back.
Signing an out and out left back must be in the thoughts of the United recruitment team though, to challenge both Brown and Seddon.
