RADLEY’S Kathryn Woodcock will go head-to-head with some of the country’s finest at this weekend’s British Championships in Birmingham.

The 19-year-old, who studies at Loughborough University, will compete in the discus at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday, qualifying for the event after winning silver at the Under 23 & Under 20 National Championships in Bedford.

Woodcock, No3 in the national under 20 rankings, set a personal best of 45.89m and broke the Radley U20 club record which she set in Chelmsford earlier this month.

Her teammate Luisa Chantler Edmond took third with an effort of 45.06.

Radley’s Alice Hopkins came eighth in the 100m hurdles final and will also compete in Birmingham, as will Oxford City’s Alice Byles, who came sixth in the 400m hurdles.

They join Oxon’s senior stars Lawrence Clarke, Hannah England and Nathan Douglas at the championships.

City’s Ella Turner was also in action at Bedford, finishing sixth in the 200m.

Emily Thompson, of Banbury Harriers, came sixth in the 800m.

Her clubmate Tomasz Napiorkowski earned seventh place in the under 23 men’s discus.

Piers Chen, of Radley, competed in the same age category, crossing seventh in the 800m.

In the under 20 event, Ben Claridge, who competes for both White Horse Harriers and Abingdon, made the 400m final, finishing sixth in a time of 48.23.

RADLEY landed victory in the third round of the Southern Athletics League at Horspath.

Under 23 athlete Jordan Dorrian not only achieved a personal best in the 100m, clocking 10.86 to take victory, but also amassed 15 points for the team in individual events as well as running a leg in the winning 4x100m relay.

MILLIE Couzens continued her habit of breaking club records as Bicester finished second in the UK Youth Development League meeting at Tamworth.

Couzens set new marks in the under 13 1,200m and 70m hurdles at the Division 2B meet.

She finished second in the 1,200m in 4.04.07, one of her three national grade 2 efforts of the day.

Couzens won the long jump with 4.38m and came third in the hurdles (12.4).

OXFORD City retained their Ridgeway Relay title.

They completed the ten-leg relay race from Ivinghoe Beacon, Buckinghamshire, to Marlborough, Wiltshire in 9mins 35.39secs.

Headington A maintained their record of finishing in the top three every year since 1999, by coming home third.
