ALEX Lynn is hopeful of a third GP2 triumph of the season this weekend at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi.

The DAMS driver, who recently moved to Oxford, is sixth in the standings after eight race weekends, following a disappointing display at Monza last month.

Lynn missed the chance to secure the GP3 title on his last visit to Sochi in 2014, but is hopeful of an improved performance this time.

“It’s a strange place, and I can’t say I’ve really put it on my list of favourite circuits yet,” he said.

“But that’s probably because last year wasn’t too great for me – I frustratingly ended up just one point short of clinching the title and had to seal it next time out in Abu Dhabi.

“I definitely have plans to improve my enjoyment of Sochi by doing well there this year.”

Meanwhile Romain Grosjean has promised full commitment to Lotus’s cause in the Russian F1 Grand Prix at Sochi tomorrow, despite signing for another team next season.

The 29-year-old Frenchman is leaving Enstone-based Lotus to drive for the American F1 team Haas in their inaugural campaign Grosjean said: “This is a new opportunity with a new team that is taking a very different approach to Formula 1. I believe in their approach and they believe in me.

“While I am committed to giving my absolute best to my current team in these last five races, I am very excited for what the future holds.”

Grosjean and teammate Pastor Maldonado go into the Russian race on the back of encouraging performances in the Japanese Grand Prix, where the pair finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Valtteri Bottas, from the Grove-based Williams team, is chasing fourth place in the drivers standings.

Bottas, who finished fifth in Japan, is eight points behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

Felipe Massa, Bottas’s teammate, will be looking to score points after failing to finish in Japan.
