BANBURY United are set to hold interviews for a new manager today.

The supporters' group hoping to take over the running of the club, in conjunction with the Puritans board, launched the search for a new boss after relegation from the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier, despite Paul Davis not being relieved of his duties.

After receiving 12 applications, United have whittled the number down to three prospective candidates.

They will be interviewed for the position by a four-man panel consisting of two members of the existing club board and two from the supporters' club.

Although Davis said he wouldn't be applying, club secretary Barry Worsley said he remained in the running for the job.

"He is currently the manager and he's still in the frame," said Worsley.

He added: "Some of the applications we've had were quite impressive, but whether they could work with a much lower budget than they're used to, we'll have to wait and see. That's what the interview process is for.

"It's not just a case of, 'do we like the applicants?' It's also, 'do they like us?'

"When they see the budget we have then they might think again."
