EYNSHAM Roadrunner Hannah Hale clinched the ladies’ Oxford Mail Cross Country League crown at Harwell by just a point after finishing second in the final round.

Hale ended on 17 points for the series, one ahead of Oxford City’s Martha Lloyd.

The Eynsham athlete did just enough to top the women’s standings, finishing second – and only eight seconds – ahead of fourth-placed Lloyd.

Witney runner Frankie Snare just clung onto third in the standings after rounding out the top three.

David Bruce sealed the men’s title after finishing third in the final race in a time of 29mins 37secs.

However, the Oxford City runner finished ten points ahead of nearest challenger David Bell, of Cirencester.

In the team standings, Oxford City A comfortably won the men’s Division 1 glory, while Headington A topped the women’s first division.

Abingdon’s Paul Fernandez took the vet 40 title by ten points from Woodstock’s James Bolton.

Fernandez was the highest-placed veteran in the men’s race, with sixth position overall.

Chris Bedford added to Abingdon’s success by claiming the vet 50 crown ahead of Headington’s Andy Phelps.

Bedford came home 82nd in the men’s race, with Headington duo Phelps (51st) and Mark Richards (52nd) the best-placed vet 50 runners.

In the vet 60 category, Woodstock’s Bryan Vaughan topped the class, but could not prevent Oxford’s Stewart Thorp from taking the overall title.

Headington’s Jude Craft (sixth) was the top vet 35 runner in the women’s race, but it was Headington’s Diane Moore, a non-runner at Harwell, who finished top of the standings.

Banbury’s Ros Kelling claimed the vet 45 crown and was the highest finisher in her category, crossing the line in ninth.

In the vet 55 category, Gwyneth Hueter clinched the title after finishing 30th in the women’s race.

Kidlington star Helene Greenwood finished eighth in the women’s race to secure the under 20 crown.

Oxford runner Callum Bampton claimed the under 17 title by winning the under 15/17 race ahead of Team Kennet’s Sammy Hart, who was first in the under 15 standings.

It was a similar story in the girls’ race as Abingdon’s Fiona Bunn finished second to win the under 17 trophy, while Izzy Fry (Newbury) and Emily Thompson (Banbury) shared the under 15 title after the former won the final round.

Radley’s Benjamin Cumberland won the under 11 race to secure top spot, while Bicester’s Amy Gould claimed the under 13 girls title.

In the under nine girls’ and boys’ race, Radley’s Quinn Miell-Ingram won to top the final leaderboard.
