While Oxford University’s lightweight women, Tethys, had a bumper day in the Upper Thames Autumn Head at Henley there were successes, too, for other local clubs, writes John Wiggins.

Tethys, belied their size by winning all of their events in open-weight categories.

The fastest time of all the women’s boats was their IM2 quad of Sarah Robinson, Ellie Back-house, Jo Green and Becky Lane.

In capturing the IM3 coxed fours, the Tethys time was another fastest of the day .

They eclipsed their more illustrious sisters, Oxford University women, even as they won the IM1 event.

City of Oxford men tgriumphed in a four and a double Oxford’s Falcon RC won through Rory Pearce and Joel Garden in the J15 doubles while Wallingford’s Cynthia Eccles and Maja Hook won the IM2.

, St Edward’s and Abingdon schools’ first eights found themselves in the same event racing the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, USA.

In a strong wind that threatened to cancel the event, Teddies produced an impressive row to finish eighth to Abingdon’s 24th from the 49 boats in the event.

Travelling to Europe, Headington Girls School raced on the calm and neutral waters of the Wohlensee, Switzerland in the Armada Cup.

This nine-kilometre race sees around 300 single sculls starting simultaneously across the lake, jostling for position and good water.

While all did well to complete the course, it was left to Rosie Little to add to her set of titles this autumn with a bronze medal in the under 17 event in 45 mins 22 secs.

 All attention will be focused back on the London Tideway for the Fuller’s Head of the River Fours this weekend.

This will ppovide the first indication of relative speeds of the main protagonists for the 2015 University Boat Races.
