Wantage Town have appointed Daniel Barry as first team manager.

The Southern League side have acted quickly after being rocked by the sudden dual resignation of their chairman and manager.

Boss Gary Ackling, 53, said he had made up his mind to quit before Saturday’s FA Carlsberg Trophy preliminary round tie game at Tiverton Town, which they lost 2-0.

The manager’s departure on Sunday followed the shock resignation of the Division 1 South & West club’s chairman Tony Woodward on Friday.

The Southern League club announced today that reserve team manager Daniel Barry had been appointed first-team boss.

Barry steps up from reserve manager and will be assisted by Ian Lovegrove and coach Rob Wytchard who is staying on. Former assistant boss Andy Lyne has joined Ackling in standing down.
