EDDIE Pepperell insists there is no reason for concern as he looks to turn around a run of missed cuts at the Maybank Malaysian Open, which starts this morning.

The Frilford Heath golfer enjoyed an excellent rookie season on the European Tour in 2013, only failing to get beyond the halfway stage in eight events all year to finish a very creditable 76th on the money list.

It has been tougher second time around, with Pepperell missing the cut in six out of eight outings so far.

The 23-year-old believes a combination of factors, on and off the course, have contributed to the lack of results, but is confident the form will turn.

He said: “A few things culminating in me not playing well – that’s part and parcel of sport.

“Sometimes you have to go through some poor form to really think things through and get back on track.

“I feel healthy and strong. I simply haven’t been swinging it well. I don’t think it’s a mental issue and I know technique can be fixed in a few days.

“There’s no point in panicking. I’ve seen people do that and it does nothing for you.

“I believe in myself – I’m frustrated, but not concerned.”

The young star from Abingdon begins his quest in Kuala Lumpur at 6.40am UK time and is also due to play events over the following fortnight in China and Singapore.

A run of tournaments, his first since January, provide an opportunity to build some momentum before the tour moves to Europe next month.

Pepperell is down at 170 in the rankings, but admitted a blip was always likely to affect him at some stage.

He said: “Everybody has had two or three months where they are struggling a bit, and I’m no different.

“The best players are up there because they know how to fix a bad week.

“I’m only 23 and it would be wrong to expect that much of myself.

“I think the reason I’ve had success over the last couple of years is the way I have dealt with some tricky situations.

“I’m very determined at the moment to put a few wrongs right and really get my game right.”
