GIRL Guides were on parade when Bloxham celebrated its second successive win in Oxfordshire’s Best Kept Village competition.
Watched by members of the parish council and village groups, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Major John Schuster, pictured inspecting the Guides, planted a yew tree to mark the occasion.
Bloxham had won the bigger village section in 1963 and when this picture was taken the following year, it had just won the winners’ class.
Congratulating the village, Major Schuster said: “A great deal of pleasure is brought to everyone who goes through this village. They are conscious of looking at something beautiful. Every credit is due to the villagers for their efforts.”
