FIFTY pupils from Windmill Secondary School in Deddington and the Blessed George Napier School in Banbury started a month's tuition in a boarding school in February 1965.

The schools were the first in North Oxfordshire to take part in the new pattern of secondary education which included a stay in a boarding school.

Under the care of members of members of staff from both schools, the party left by coach for Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight.

Windmill School headmaster Mr G. R. Wing, said: "This trip means that the third year was transplanted to a school in the Isle of Wight for a whole month.

"The pupils will be making a great deal of use of the surroundings there and will take part in expeditions.

"We have been away for short times on continental trips but this is the first time our school will have been away for such a length of time."
