A HEADINGTON school celebrated its 50th anniversary in April 1990 by turning the clocks back to the 1940s.
Children at Sandhills Primary School dressed in 1940s uniforms and toasted the event with traditional school milk.
And to mark the anniversary for future generations, pupils also buried time capsules to be dug up in 50 years time, perhaps by the children of pupils who then attended the school.
The capsules contained more than 30 letters written by present-day pupils to the child of the future.
The capsules were made of plastic drainpipe, and also included leaflets about the new National Curriculum, a copy of Look-in, a teenagers magazine and a t-shirt for a future headteacher of the school.
During the rest of the anniversary day, pupils took part in physical training in the playground and school cooks served up 1940s-style food in the canteen.
