MEMORIES of schooldays came flooding back for former St Ebbe's School pupils in June 1975.
The group were having a last look around the school before it closed at the end of term.
The school, which was built about 1870, was set to be knocked down with the children being moved to a new first school across the river in Whitehouse Road.
Miss R. E. Marshall, headmistress since 2969, organised an exhibition illustrating the school's history and invited past pupils, staff and friends along.
She said: "In some respects we shall be sorry to go.
"We shall have more room at the new school, but the old building has a character and an atmosphere we shan't have at the new."
Among the visitors to the exhibition was Jack Harris, who came to the school in 1918 at the age of three.
The former New Street resident said: "It's basically just the same as it was then.
"You expect to come in and see all the old faces here. I still feel attached to the place."
