The A34 will be fully closed in both directions overnight as repairs continue following an earlier road traffic collision and fire.

The northbound A34 remains closed between the Hinksey Hill and Botley interchanges.

Currently only one lane is open southbound.

The incident, which happened shortly before 2am, resulted in the A34 being closed in both directions.

The fire has caused severe damage to the road surface, central reservation barrier and nearside barrier, which need repairing before the A34 can safely reopen.

One lane on the southbound A34 has since reopened, however, the southbound A34 will close again tonight to allow the resurfacing to take place.

The A34 will remain closed in both directions until the repairs have finished, which could take until late Sunday morning to complete.

National Highways said its contractors are working hard to reopen the A34 as soon as it is safe to do so.

A clearly signed diversion route is in place following the agreed ‘solid diamond’ for northbound traffic via the Oxford Bypass, A40 and A44.

Access for residents and business owners is being maintained and managed on site.
