Searches are continuing for a man in his 60s who fell in the River Thames in Oxford.

Police said the white man, in his 60s and wearing a flat cap, was thought to have entered the water from East Street in Osney Mead at about 1.20pm on Tuesday (April 9).

A major search was launched using specialist search police resources, with assistance from the Joint Operations Marine Unit and Oxfordshire Search and Rescue.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service sent four engines and a rescue boat to the scene.

South Central Ambulance Service workers also attended.

Members of the public had tried to assist the man in the water.

Shortly after the search, Thames Valley Police received reports of a missing person who matched his description.

Police have said there is "no evidence to suggest that the man came out of the water".

A police spokesperson confirmed today (April 13) that searches are ongoing.
