A 24-year-old woman has been deported to Romania following an investigation into a Cowley brothel, police said.

Alexandra-Valentina Mirea was arrested in December 2014 after police raided an address in Rymers Lane, Cowley where it was suspected women were working as prostitutes.

The woman was found to have links to three other brothels, two in Cambridge and one in Leicester.

Following a joint investigation with Cambridge Police, Mirea was charged with four offences of keeping, managing, acting or assisting in the management of a brothel.

Mirea appeared at Peterborough Crown Court in November and was found guilty of all four offences, Thames Valley Police said.

She was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment and with her time served she was released and deported to Romania last month.

PC Chrisy Jupp, from the Cowley Neighbourhood Team, who assisted with the initial warrant to search the property in December 2014, said: "This was a great result for the Neighbourhood Team and the council and a fantastic example of good partnership working.

"The offender was sentenced and later deported and those involved in the case have been offered specialist support.

"This is the first conviction in relation to a brothel in Oxford in a long time, and I hope that it demonstrates what can be done if members of the community report matters to us and what we can achieve by working with our partner agencies."
