The sentencing of a convicted drug dealer for concealing cash from a heroin and cocaine ring was adjourned because of the national barrister’s strike.

Gavin Preston, of Astrop Lane, Oxford, was jailed for 12 years in March for his part in a multi-million-pound Oxford-based drugs ring.

The 36-year-old was due to appear at Oxford Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced for concealing criminal property.

But the case was adjourned until today after barristers protested over cuts in legal aid.

Criminal barristers are refusing to take on Crown Court cases, in solidarity with criminal defence solicitors, who now face cuts of 8.75 per cent to their fees.
